4. Expected tasks(s):
• Under the supervision of the Programme Management Officer, the Individual Contractor will be responsible for the following tasks:Assist in planning, organizing and servicing the informal consultations (approximately one every two weeks), including ensuring the room bookings, preparing emails in consultation with the secretariat team, setting up the online links to the meetings, preparing, distributing and collecting the COVID-19 contact tracing forms, support in preparing relevant documents, assist in taking notes at the meetings.
• Assist the secretariat team in collecting the information on observers wishing to attend the sessions of the Committee and compiling a draft list that will be submitted to the Chair and subsequently to the Committee for its consideration, by liaising closely with staff in NY and Vienna.
• Support the secretariat team in preparing invitations to the first meeting for Member States and observers, organizing the registration of participants and supporting in the registration process as appropriate, responding to Member States queries in close consultation with the secretariat team and assist in keeping the website of the AHC updated.

The consultancy is proposed for the period from 25 October 2021 to 31 December 2021 for 50 days.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Background of the assignment:
UNODC, through its Organized Crime and Illicit Trafficking Branch (OCB), serves as the substantive and technical secretariat to the Ad Hoc Committee to Elaborate a Comprehensive International Convention on Countering the Use of Information and Communications Technologies for Criminal Purposes, established pursuant to General Assembly resolution 74/247. The Committee will hold its first session in January 2022, in UNHQ in New York. More information on the Ad Hoc Committee may be found on its website.

2. Purpose of the assignment:
The purpose of the assignment is to assist in the planning and organization of the first session of the Ad Hoc Committee, to be held in January 2022, working with the secretariat team.

3. Specific tasks to be performed by the Individual Contractor:
Under the supervision of Ms. Tania Banuelos, Programme Management Officer, OCB, , the individual contractor will carry out the following tasks:
• Assist in planning and organizing the informal consultations among Member States in the lead up to the first session, by liaising with the office of the Chair of the Ad Hoc Committee and the UNOV/UNODC Conference Management Service, as necessary;
• Assist the secretariat in collecting the information on observers wishing to attend the sessions of the Committee and compiling a draft list that will be submitted to the Chair and subsequently to the Committee for its consideration;
• Assist the secretariat in conducting the logistical arrangements for the first session, including assisting in the preparation of invitations and registration, ensuring that the information on the website is up-to-date and keeping track of and responding to Member States queries on the logistical aspects of the first session.

Qualifications/special skills

Academic Qualifications: A first-level university degree in the fields of law, political science, social science, public administration or international relations is required. An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in the same fields is an advantage.
Experience: At least two years of professional experience in planning and organizing intergovernmental meetings at an intergovernmental organization is required. Experience working with the United Nations is desirable.
Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another United Nations official language is an advantage.
