The global sustainable development agenda on SDGs and Agenda 2063 provide the two critical frameworks for the design and monitoring of the continent’s development agenda underpinned by the three dimensions of sustainable development: economic, environmental and social. The SDGs provide the global enabling environment required for Africa's development, whereas Agenda 2063 articulates the region's framework for the realization of national strategies for inclusive transformation. Providing a common platform for the goals, targets and indicators of SDGs and Agenda 2063 is key to policy formulation and decision making at all levels.
For effective implementation of the SDGs and Agenda 2063, it is vital to regularly compile data, metadata and documents for the various respective goals and targets of the two frameworks. To this end, the UNFPA and United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) as co-conveners of the opportunities and issues based coalition on strengthening data ecosystem in Africa working with other UN agencies supporting statistical systems have developed an online platform to manage data and resources – “The Africa UN Data for Development Portal”. The platform serves as a one-stop-shop Portal for providing, organizing and delivering information on SDGs, Agenda 2063, key socio-economic indictors as well as national development plans.
The Africa UN Data for Development Portal aims at providing an interactive platform for UN system for monitoring and reporting of development data and statistics.
