The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.
The UN-REDD Programme is an interagency UN flagship partnership that supports nationally led REDD+ processes and promotes the informed and meaningful involvement of all stakeholders, including indigenous peoples and other forest-dependent communities, in national and international REDD+ implementation. UNEP leads on knowledge management for the UN-REDD Programme.
As part of its Knowledge Management (KM) efforts in 2021, the UN-REDD Programme requires an update of its Knowledge Management strategy including the application of best practices for the creation, management and dissemination of lessons learned, organization of South-South and regional knowledge and peer-to-peer learning exchanges, facilitation of knowledge briefs, maintenance of the Programme's online knowledge repository. The Programme requires to hire an expert for this role with specific knowledge management expertise.
This position is home based, under the supervision of the Nairobi-based UN-REDD KM and communications Officer.
The consultant will be responsible for the identification of methodologies and approaches for knowledge creation, management and sharing across the three partner agencies and 65 partner countries to contribute to enhancing the scope and speed of REDD+ progress.
The consultant will perform the following tasks:
1. Develop appropriate methodologies, processes and tools for knowledge creation and knowledge sharing
2. Update the UN-REDD Programme knowledge management strategy based on 2021-2025 workplan.
3. Design and deliver roll-out plan for UN-REDD knowledge briefs, based on best, proven methods, to ensure uptake of lessons learned.
4. Facilitate Global Knowledge Exchange on RBP for Africa and Asia
5. Facilitate the Global Knowledge Exchange on ART TREES.
6. Develop improved online knowledge repository.
7. Facilitate online communities of practice.
8. Provide structure, composition and facilitation methods for strategic high-level events, such as at COP27.
Skills: : Facilitation skills for face-to-face and online meetings is required. Knowledge of digital KM tools is required.
In-depth knowledge of KM methodologies is required. Facilitation skills for communities of practice is required.
Academic Qualifications: An Advanced University Degree in social science or related field is required.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in knowledge management and facilitation of face-to-
face and online events is required. Experience in working with international development organizations in the design and facilitation of knowledge products and events is required. Experience in managing collaborative processes is required. Proven experience and strong knowledge of information management and communications is desirable.
Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this
post, fluency in spoken and written English is required. Knowledge of any other official UN languages would be an asset.
