Result of Service

Under the overall supervision of the Deputy Head of UNODC/GMCP, the incumbent will perform the following tasks:

• Coordinate and produce the UNODC/GMCP Briefing Package 2021 in English, Spanish and French
• Preparation and execution of the UNODC/GMCP Innovation Week 2022 ;
• Organise the annual LEGM event in the margins of the mentioned Innovation Week;
• Organise Team Leaders meeting including holding an exhibition stand;
• Compile, design and distribute the UNODC/GMCP bi-monthly newsletter;
• Compilation of monthly human-interest stories from across the seven UNODC/GMCP regional teams and share inputs with UNODC Advocacy Section;
• Manage and monitor monthly the UNODC/GMCP website;
• Coordinate the monthly research work and partnership between UNODC/GMCP and the Stable Seas Foundation.

Work Location

Home-based with travel to South Africa from 21 to 25 February 2022

Expected duration

From 3rd January -25th February for 40 working days

Duties and Responsibilities

The purpose of this assignment is to prepare advocacy work through communications, event planning, visibility and research work and generally coordinate programming for the UNODC Global Maritime Crime Programme.

Qualifications/special skills

Academic Qualifications: • An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in international relations, communications, public relations, social sciences or related area is required. A first level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Experience: • • At least 2 years of experience in the area of public policy, project development and communications is required;
• Experience working with international organizations in the areas of communications, maritime security and the environment is desirable;
• Strong communication skills in a multicultural context, including ability to correctly interpret messages and adequately reflect input in written texts is required;
• Proficiency in the use of personal computers and programs is required;
• Experience in working on maritime crime research, public information, communications or advocacy is desirable.
Language: • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
