Duties and Responsibilities

1. General Background
(Brief description of the national, sector-specific or other relevant context in which the individual contractor will operate)

The Secretariat of the International Resource Panel (IRP), hosted by UN Environment (Paris, France), is charged with delivering knowledge products to policy makers at the global level with respect to natural resource use and management; knowledge on how to improve resource efficiency; and information on different pathways to deliver such actions.
The individual contractor is primarily needed to support activities related to the IRP Steering Committee membership, cooperation with the IRP Strategic Partners and resource mobilization. The individual contractor aims to contribute to the strengthening of IRP visibility within the public and private sector. The individual contractor will support the development of strong relations to donors from the public sector (governments) as well as the private sector (foundations). The aim is to increase the resource base for the work of the Panel.
The individual contractor will furthermore be involved in the day-to-day management of specific IRP work streams in collaboration with other project managers in the Secretariat.
The individual contractor will operate in the context of international cooperation and partnership.

2. Purpose and Scope of Assignment

The individual contractor is primarily needed to support activities related to Steering Committee membership, cooperation with the IRP Strategic Partners and resource mobilization. The individual contractor aims to contribute to the strengthening of IRP visibility within the public and private sector. The individual contractor will support the development of strong relations to donors from the public sector (governments) as well as the private sector (foundations). The aim is to increase the resource base for the work of the Panel.
The individual contractor will furthermore be involved in the day-to-day management of specific IRP work streams in collaboration with other project managers in the Secretariat.

(1) Facilitate active participation in the IRP of all Steering Committee members;
(2) Facilitate expansion of the Steering Committee membership base to achieve better regional representation;
(3) Increase the Steering Committee membership base with additional OECD members and other developed countries who could provide a financial contribution;
(4) Coordinate communication and cooperation with UNEP Regional Offices;
(5) Strengthen cooperation with current IRP Strategic Partners;
(6) Identify and establish cooperation with potential new Strategic Partners with joint research areas;
(7) Maintain and improve the relationship with existing donors;
(8) Establish new relationships with potential donors;
(9) Develop relevant briefing material for new donors to ensure they feel well informed on the work of the Panel;
(10) Establish system for regular follow up with relevant donors outside the government sector;
(11) Coordinate promotion and dissemination of IRP /UNEP project” Build Back Better: Using Green Technologies to Reduce Food Waste at Consumer Level”;
(12) Coordinate IRP research project “Global assessment of the nexus between natural resources and human mobility”;
(13) Finalize IRP report “Global assessment of the nexus between natural resources and human mobility, including targeted products: Summary for policymakers and factsheet;
(14) Coordinate publishing process of IRP report “Global assessment of the nexus between natural resources and human mobility”;
(15) Organize launch events and promotion of IRP report “Global assessment of the nexus between natural resources and human mobility”;
(16) Prepare mapping of interested stakeholders for the promotion of IRP report “Global assessment of the nexus between natural resources and human mobility” and coordinate development of targeted communication materials;
(17) Support the implementation of the communication components of the IRP work program;
(18) Support the preparation and organization of IRP 29th.

Travel e.g., to the IRP meetings and other IRP related awareness raising and capacity building activities may be needed.

Qualifications/special skills

Skills: Skills:
• An understanding of natural resource management and its link to the SDGs;
• Excellent communication skills, including development and delivery of technical presentations aimed at different stakeholders i.e. governments, private sector, general public, donors; and excellent drafting skills;
• Strong understanding of the policy-making process at the international level is desirable.
Academic Qualifications: An advanced university degree in environmental management, industrial/ environmental engineering, ecological economics or a related field.
Experience: • At least three years’ experience working on environmental management, circular economy, resource management or similar, and in addition experience with resource mobilization form both government and private (foundations) sources;
• Some experience at international level;
• Knowledge of the UN System is an advantage;
• Experience in a developing country and countries in transition context is an advantage.
Language: • Proficiency in communication and writing skills in English are required
