Duties and Responsibilities

The 10 Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns (10YFP), adopted by the UN General Assembly, is a key implementation mechanism for the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development and its SDG 12, of which it is an integral part. The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) serves as the Secretariat of the 10YFP, working closely with Member States and other stakeholders engaged in the One Planet network (oneplanetnetwork.org) which supports the implementation of the 10YFP.

The development, establishment and implementation of the 10YFP has relied on the convening power and expertise of the United Nations. Equally, United Nations agencies and programmes play a key role in the achievement of SDG 12. The 10YFP and its One Planet network benefit from the engagement of the UN in all of the six thematic programmes, as well as in the Multi-Partner Trust Fund for SDG 12 and the SDG 12 Hub recently launched by the Secretariat.

The One Planet network consists now of 5000+ members online, 700+ Partner organisations of the six thematic programmes and officially appointed 140 national government focal points. To manage and facilitate knowledge sharing across this vast network and to capture progress being made in the implementation of sustainable consumption and production (SCP) and SDG 12, three key online platforms have been developed: the website (oneplanetnetwork.org), the SDG 12 Hub (sdg12hub.org) and a data management/CRM system.

Through the website and associated User Portal, the network members share their efforts on SCP and SDG 12 (including official reporting of Member States on SDG 12.1.1). The data is captured and managed in the data management/CRM system and once approved, the becomes visible on the website for consumption in the form of projects, policies, resources, and news, as well as upcoming events and webinars.

The website, SDG 12 Hub and data management system therefore are key instruments in the knowledge management, communication, and monitoring and reporting of the activities across the One Planet network and implementation of the 10YFP. As such, it is crucial that these platforms are properly technically sustainable, managed, continuously improved and that the use of them are well facilitated and supported. The 10YFP and One Planet network are currently renewing its strategic focus and with that there is an increased need for data extraction, analysis and dissemination, as well as to think strategically about how the data captured can be packaged into tailored knowledge products to more effectively support the network towards its strategic objectives.

In this regard, the 10YFP Secretariat is looking for a consultant to play a key role in ensuring the technical maintenance and sustainability of the digital infrastructure of the One Planet network and support the continued efforts to monitor the progress towards SCP and SDG 12 and inform strategic decision-making.
