Cadre organisationnel

The post incumbent is responsible to the Deputy Chief, Field Health Programme.


In accordance with Agency policy and procedures, the incumbent:

• Undertakes periodic and regular supervisory visits to Health Centers to ensure that all matters relating to the dental services are in line with the technical instructions and approved strategies; participates in the maintenance of a healthy and safe work environment in accordance with the Health Technical Instructions and guidelines and Infrastructure Standards;
• Directs, administers, manages and guides the dental staff including screening and treatment services, preventive oral health and services of mobile dental teams; evaluates the achievements of the relevant oral health objectives; provides technical guidance for the dental staff and ensures the proper implementation of the technical guidelines; advises and oversees the implementation of quality assurance system of the dental services in the Health Centers to maintain and improve the quality of work in line with the strategic plan of action; is responsible for planning, preparing and management of the Field's dental budget;
• Advises his/her supervisor on oral health care services in the Field; presents an annual report on the workload and productivity of dental services;
• Identifies the requirements of oral health care including oral equipment, instruments, furniture and other materials; analyzes bids related to oral health; carries out technical evaluations of received supplies, advises on changes in specifications and follows up on their distribution; carries out periodic inventory and stock checking in coordination with the Heads of Health Centres;
• Checks, verifies and analyses all statistical dental data and reports received from the Health Centers and ensures the proper maintenance and completeness of health centre records;
• Plans and assists in the conduct of health services researches and studies on oral health and on in-service and on-the-job training of staff assigned to the oral health programme; oversees the establishment and implementation of the orientation and training plans for newly recruited dental staff;
• Carries out dental and periodontal treatments/surgery with respect to patients referred by dental surgeons according to a weekly rotating schedule;
• Performs such other duties as may be assigned.


• Excellent communication skills;
• Proficiency in standard Agency computer applications including health information system (HIS);
• Demonstrated ability to organize and implement training programmes and to develop staff;
• Good analytical skills;
• Excellent team work and leadership skills;
• Ability to work under pressure.


• A university degree in Dental Surgery from a recognized university;
• A valid license to practice Dentistry in the country of duty station.

Expérience professionnelle

At least six years' experience in dental treatment including dental surgery of which three years should have been at a supervisory level.

Connaissances linguistiques

Excellent command of spoken and written Arabic and English.

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

Notice spéciale

Conditions of service:
• Basic Salary: Monthly basic salary from $2,750.10; and monthly dependency allowance up to $123.25.
• Contract Duration: Three years including 1 year probation period.
• Leave: 36 days of annual leave for staff attending UNRWA duty stations with six-day working week. 30 days of annual leave for staff attending UNRWA duty stations with five-day working week.
• Pension: Provident Fund contribution (15.2% of basic salary paid by the Agency)
• Other conditions of service and benefits may apply.

Desirable Qualifications:
Advanced degree dentistry or in Public Health.

Additional Information
•The incumbent is required to travel frequently in the field of operation.
•Possession of a valid driving license.

When the minimum requirements are not fully met, Field Director for Field Area staff and Director of Human Resources for Headquarters Area staff, in consultation with the concerned supervisor may exceptionally substitute part of the unmet requirements with a combination of relevant academic qualifications, additional professional training and progressive relevant work experience.
NB: Work experience alone or formal qualifications with no relevant work experience are not considered an acceptable combination
