Org. Setting and Reporting

The position is located in the Business Intelligence (BI) Team in the Enterprise Resource Planning Solution Division, Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance in New York. The Senior Financial Information Systems Assistant will report to a Senior Information Systems Officer.

The scope of work function includes ongoing development and implementation of the suite of Business Intelligence processes in the Umoja solution, specifically in respect of the wider suite of finance processes. The scope of functions of this new post will be to assist in production support of Umoja's BI [analyzing, testing and resolving Tier3 tickets], to work in the implementation of the workplan for the 'Continuous Improvements' of Umoja's BI solution [particularly Financial information and reporting, Finance data modelling, etc.,], as well as coordinating with relevant stakeholders and users of BI for Finance.

Under the guidance of the Chief of Business Intelligence, the Senior Financial Information Systems Assistant will be responsible for the following:

1. SUPPORT to the ongoing DEVELOPMENT of Umoja's BI Finance solution:
•Assist in the maintenance and administration of work processes to support the SAP BI Finance solution of Umoja, specifically: Data loads; Data Access Profiles, Dimensions and Models; Teams and Task Profiles; Rules (Member Formulas, Logic Scripts, Business Rules, Controls); Work Status; Journals and Drill-Throughs.
•Gather and review of the various requirements for the development of BI reports and provides relevant support to finance users thereof.
•In connection with BI, support work to refine and implement new requirements and changes to the Umoja solution to maintain and/or improve the production and presentation of financial data to clients.
•Help identify improvements for the BI operation, from data mapping, loading to data modelling and reporting.
•Working on improving the FI data models to make sure all the information required for analysis is available and properly modeled.
•Implement required fixes working on the tools and technologies being used in the project: HANA Modeling, SQL, WEBI, AWS, BW, etc.

2. General support to the wider BI solution of UMOJA, with particular focus on Finance related processes, Financial data and systemic reporting capabilities:
•Review production iNeed tickets and getting the right input from business/functional for the timely resolution of BI tickets.
b. DATA-related work:
•Assist with data loads in production and review/maintenance of Work Status.
•Assist with the cross-reconciliation between ECC and BW/HANA to ensure the correctness and completeness as well as the integrity of the Umoja system financial data.

3. Assist in the TESTING and performance MONITORING of the system, using appropriate monitoring tools.
•Test relevant new versions of system software and evaluate impact in respect of BI-related functionality.
•Monitor of the current solution to make sure that performance is as expected.

•Prepare technical and user documentation for deployed application systems, as well as training materials and helps conducting technical presentations whereas required.

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Work Experience

A minimum of ten years of experience in finance, accounting, budget or business administration, information systems management or a related area is required.

Experience in report writing and programming analysis for ERP BI implementation is required (such as Business Objects; Crystal reports; Visual Basic; SAP BPC EPM, Logic script; SAP BADI; Microsoft ,Net, C#, Java, C++), including structured/object-oriented design, relational systems, scripting and query languages.

Experience with SAP Systems and the reporting tools of the Umoja solution or similar SAP solution for Business Intelligence purposes is required (e.g., BW, WEBI, AWS, Dashboards, FIORI, SAP HANA modeling).

Experience with finance processes and SAP FICO is required.

Experience with advanced Microsoft Excel is required.


English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.


Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

Special Notice

Appointment against this position is for an initial period of one year. Extension of the appointment is subject to extension of the mandate and/or the availability of the funds.
