Result of Service

The service of the consultant will contribute to UNCTAD efforts in building the capacity of regional and national authorities in designing and planning effective and developed-oriented SEZs in Africa.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. In the context of the “Continental Free Trade Area (CFTA)” project implemented by UNCTAD with the support of GIZ, the consultant will use his/her expertise in the field of special economic zones to undertake the following tasks:

- Liaise with a range of external stakeholders and set up technical cooperation events on Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in Africa for policymakers in one English-speaking and one French-speaking country by March 2022
- Organize dissemination events and webinars on SEZs as required
- Write the concept notes related to these events

2. In the context of the UNCTAD’s cooperation with the Africa Economic Zones Organizations (AEZO) on SEZs and Local Entrepreneurship Development, the consultant will:

- undertake the coordination of the project which will lead to the publication of a report on the subject
- Liaise with a range of external stakeholders and organize dissemination events
- Deliver a short research input documenting current initiatives in African zones for the promotion of local entrepreneurship

3. The consultant is also expected to take part in the organization of ongoing activities related to the newly established Global Alliance of Special Economic Zones through a cooperation between UNCTAD and Special Economic Zones associations worldwide.

Qualifications/special skills

Academic Qualifications: A master degree in International Business, Business Administration and Management or related area is required.
Experience: At least 3 years of experience in development and business analysis. A previous experience in working on projects related to the development of special economic zones is desirable.
Language: Fluency in (both oral and written) English is required. Confident in French would be desirable.
