UNRWA, Jordan Field Office, Legal Office
• The duration of the consultancy is 11 months with start date on March 2022 and with possibility of extension subject to availability of funds;
The incumbent is under the supervision of the Head Field Legal Office.
In accordance with Agency policy and procedures, the incumbent:
• Translate documents based on legal office requests from Arabic to English and vis-à-vis;
• On-demand, provide interpreter service during any meeting between the legal office staff members and others;
• Translate legal documents including but limited to, contracts, letters, investigations, witness statements, court's files and judgments, UNRWA's Dispute Tribunal documents, and any other legal documents.
• Translate texts from the original language to the target language, preserving the meaning, tone, cultural references, and nuances of meaning;
• Revise the translations and check that the texts contain no errors;
• Translate/revise documents developed by the legal office including agreements, letters, policies, and circulars.. etc.;
• Maintain continuous communication and consultation with the lawyers regarding the best use and understanding of the legal expressions;
• Maintain the highest procedures for protecting the confidentiality of documents and meetings.
• Respect the translation delivery dates especially the tasks related to UNRWA's Dispute Tribunal.
• Performs such other duties as may be assigned.
Academic Qualifications:
A university degree from a university or institution of equivalent status in translation, interpreting, law, or other related fields is required
Experience:
At least two years of progressively responsible legal translation experience in a national, international organization, or a company.
Language:
Fluent command of written and spoken English and Arabic
Competencies:
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others in a diverse team environment.
• A high level of written and verbal communication skills and practical writing experience in a legal context, including the ability to present information and data in a clear and instructive manner, combined with superior skills in legal writing.
• Ability to translate texts from the original language to the target language, preserving the meaning, tone, cultural references, and nuances of meaning;
• Ability to maintain the highest standers of confidentiality.
• Ability to respect deadlines.
•Remuneration will be with a monthly basic salary of JD 700 net tax free.
Desirable Qualification:
• Knowledge of contemporary issues in the Middle East;
• Familiarity with the UN system and practices;
• Training in legal translation;

The incumbent applies his/her education, training, and prior work experience to translate the
legal documents in the heights stander of quality.
Supervisory control overwork of the incumbent
Day-to-day activities are carried out and routine decisions are taken without reference to a
higher authority. Major activities are under the overall supervision of HFLO. Work is
reviewed for the attainment of objectives
