Result of Service

The candidate should produce the following deliverables.
• Finalized edited and designed technical report including layout.
• Two edited and designed policy briefs including layout, which will be pulled out from the technical report and published as separate documents;
I. Resilient agriculture in the context emerging environmental challenges in the 21st Century: The Africa response; and
II. Land use and biodiversity conservation: What roles can Conservation farming play?
The documents should be made available as soft copy and be available to use as printed version.

Duties and Responsibilities

The post is located in the UNEP Africa office. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Regional Sub- Programme Coordinator for Environment Under Review who is the designated Project Coordinator.

The Integrated Approach Program on Food Security (IAP-FS), (also known as the Resilient Food Systems (RFS) program), is committed to fostering sustainability and resilience for food security in Sub-Saharan Africa, targeting four geographies in the region that are seriously affected by environmental degradation and loss of ecosystem services, resulting in persistently low crop and livestock productivity. The program specifically targets twelve countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. The country projects are linked to the IAP-FS program through a supply and demand driven approach. The technical report to be edited is a result of one of the capacity building demands for improving decision making by individual countries to address the impact of land use on the provision of ecosystem services under project component one: Strengthening integrated institutional frameworks and mechanisms. The technical report to be edited and designed is comprised of a regional assessment on impacts of various land use scenarios on ecosystem services in productive landscapes and two policy briefs. The knowledge resources will work to strengthen integrated institutional frameworks and mechanisms and will be used by donors and other involved stakeholders with the primary target group being the program countries, development partners, implementing partners and other relevant stakeholders.

Under the general supervision of the Science Policy Expert and in close consultation with the Project Coordinator, the candidate will undertake the following activities:
• Edit,
• proof-read,
• revise, and
• divide the prepared document, including checking spelling, acronyms and other abbreviations.

Qualifications/special skills

Academic Qualifications: University degree in communication, journalism, public relations, or related disciplines is requred.
Experience: Proven professional experience of at least 3 years in content development/graphic design/layout/publication production is required.
Experience working with a UN Agency or International Organizations is desirable.
Familiarity with functions of ecosystem services, sustainable agriculture and environmental assessments is an asset.
Language: Fluency in oral and written English is required.
