The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) provides critical Supply Chain, Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies services and Training to all peacekeeping and special political missions around the world as well as to other UN Offices, Agencies Funds and Programs.
The United Nations Global Support Center (UNGSC) is seeking to hire a Consultant for the Central Warehousing activities.
Under the Secretary General’s general reform efforts, the development and operation of agile supply chains in support of local, regional, and global operations is a key opportunity for the Department of Operational Support (DOS) and UNGSC to offer expertise and capacity and lead the process by utilizing and optimizing existing tools and practices, such as the Strategic Deployment Stock (SDS) based in Brindisi, Italy. Efforts include a digital transformation of working processes and procedures, elimination of non-value-adding activities, and automation with an ultimate target of increased performance regarding client satisfaction as well as operational costs to the UNGSC.
The Warehouse Operations - Digital Transformation Consultant will work under the direct supervision of the Chief, Supply Chain Service.
The consultant shall be responsible for the following duties:
Phase 1:
• In close collaboration with the DOS/Office of the Supply Chain Management (OSCM)/Umoja Coordination Service (UCS) and the ERP Solutions Division (ERPSD), assess and analyse workflows and current use of SAP in UNGSC and field missions’ warehouse operations. Assess preceding processes (source-to-acquire, inbound delivery) and their inputs into warehouse operations with focus on data delivery and data accuracy.
• In close cooperation with the Material Master Team, assess the current product identification system throughout the supply chain including a joint analysis with UCS and GAMPS (Global Assets Management Policy Service) on the current use of barcode and radio frequency identification (RFID) applications in different locations and entities. Distinctions are to be made between consumables, equipment, and fixed assets in the workflow and data management.
• Provide an expert’s opinion on the use of suitable product identifiers for the end-to-end supply chain and material life cycle.
Phase 2:
• In collaboration with UCS and ERPSD, explore opportunities for digital transformation and automation of warehouse operation activities. Explore suitable technology such as mobile applications, RFID and Bluetooth enabled digital inventory management solutions, and similar.
• Provide analysis of available technology and a proof-of-concept (POC) of recommended solutions in accordance with established governance for further examination and testing. POC to include application in similar environments or businesses.
• Recommendations shall be aligned with applicable Business Requirement Framework and required format to serve during Change Board reviews.
Phase 3:
• Coordinate and oversee the mock run testing of recommended solution(s) at UNGSC. Measure solution performance against predefined criteria and indicators. Mock runs may be conducted in different sprints as applicable and suitable.
• Provide a detailed test assessment report of all tested solutions including system integration with existing SAP modules.
• Final report shall include a detailed cost benefit analysis and implementation strategy. The final report shall be used to create a business case for presentation to the Change Board.
Academic Qualifications: Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in computer science, supply chain, logistics, commerce, or a related field is required.
A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Experience: A minimum of ten (10) years progressively responsible experience in computer science, supply chain management, logistics, commerce, or a related field is required.
Experience in the use of the logistics modules of SAP with focus on Warehouse and Inventory Management is required.
Experience in identifying and implementing effective digitalization solutions to expedite and improve warehousing and inbound/outbound processes is required.
A minimum of five (5) years of experience in working with SAP in Public Sector Accounting and implementation of integrated technology based on mobile applications hinged on code readers and RFID is desirable.
Experience in analyzing and identifying solutions to improve and simplify complex processes is desirable.
Experience in conducting research, evaluating and integrating information from a variety of sources, in order to assess impact on sourcing, warehousing and distribution operations is desirable.
Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Fluency in Italian is desirable.
