Work Location

Expected duration

The contract duration will be 18 April 2022 – 18 October 2022, for a total of 50 days work within this time-period.

Duties and Responsibilities

In line with the guiding principles of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, UNDRR has been expanding its work on gender-responsive disaster risk reduction and women’s leadership in disaster risk reduction, including through the flagship women’s leadership programme the Women’s International Network for Disaster Risk Reduction (WIN DRR). In addition to supporting and growing WIN DRR, ongoing efforts include mainstreaming gender at the Global Platform and Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction, implementing the recommendations from the UN Joint Study on Gender Equality, Women’s Empowerment and Leadership in DRR, and supporting a gender-responsive midterm review of the Sendai Framework. To support these efforts UNDRR is recruiting a communications consultant to develop content to support the organisation’s work on gender and women’s leadership.

Duty and responsibility
The Gender Communications Consultant will be responsible for producing visually engaging printed and digital content to support the knowledge sharing, advocacy, networking and community building objectives of UNDRR’s Women’s International Network for Disaster Risk Reduction (WIN DRR). The consultant will support all aspects of communications for the WIN DRR programme, as well as broader communication objectives around gender-responsive disaster risk reduction, in line with UNDRR’s Gender Strategy.

To achieve this objective, the Gender Communications Consultant will:
• Work closely with UNDRR’s Gender Advisor on communication materials in support of a gender-responsive midterm review of the Sendai Framework.
• Update and implement the communications and partnership strategy for the WIN DRR initiative for 2022.
• Grow WIN DRR’s social media audience and engagement through the development of original content.
• Lead communications and media engagement for the WIN DRR Leadership Awards.
• Support communication around women’s leadership and gender events at the Global Platform for DRR and the Asia Pacific Ministerial Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction.
• Build the series of WIN DRR profiles and videos, mapping the career paths of women leaders in DRR and publish them to align with events in the UN Calendar.
• Design gender and women’s leadership reports for both print layout and engaging multimedia web layout.
• Support communications for national WIN DRR networks and to expand the WIN DRR network to other regions.
• Format gender and women’s leadership content for web and build pages on UNDRR’s site in collaboration with UNDRR communications staff.

The contract will be a retainer contract with two payments made, up to a maximum of 50 days over the contract. The contract will be a six-month contract starting 11 April 2022 and finishing 11 October 2022.

The material produced from this assignment will support the planned gender and women’s leadership engagement in major events in 2022 including the midterm review of the Sendai Framework, the Global Platform, and the APMCDRR, including the WIN DRR Leadership Awards. The content produced will also be utilized in campaigns across the social media channels for both WIN DRR and UNDRR and will build an online resource on UNDRR’s website.
