The Special Assistant (Donor Relations) reports to the Director of External Relations.

Responsibilities

- Assists the Director of External Relations and supports the Director of Partnerships as necessary and as advised by the Director of External Relations on current and long-term strategic functions related to donor relations and resource mobilization.
- Undertakes research and writing papers on a wide range of general administrative, financial, and operational issues of concern to the Department of External Relations, including drafting presentations, talking points, speeches and notes for the record; prepares reports and correspondence as requested.
- Follows up, as required, on the implementation of decisions and on other matters referred by the Director of External Relations to departments and offices at Headquarters and the Fields, and contributes to the optimal flow of information to, from and within the department.
- Supervises administrative aspects across the department by liaising with Directors/Chiefs and coordinating with administrative personnel as necessary.
- Maintains contact and liaises with offices of donor representatives; follows up with internal and external interlocuters as necessary.
- Acts as secretary for department meetings and other meetings as required.
- Represents the Department and/or the Agency at UN or other meetings and conferences, as required.

Education

A university degree from an accredited educational institution in public or business administration, social sciences, law or a related discipline.

Work Experience

At least six years of progressively responsible relevant work experience in administrative affairs, advocacy and outreach with governmental and non-governmental organizations (required).

A minimum of two continuous years of relevant international experience outside UNRWA, and outside the country(s) of which the candidate is a national or holds citizenship, a passport or a national identity number (required).

Working understanding of principles, procedures and organizational culture associated with Official Development Assistance (desirable).

Knowledge of contemporary issues relating to the Middle East (desirable).

Working knowledge and experience of the Agency’s operations in the Middle East, and knowledge of Middle Eastern culture (desirable).

Languages

Excellent command of written and spoken English.

Knowledge of a second UN language is desirable.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

The Special Assistant (Donor Relations) will be required to reside in Jerusalem and may be required to accompany the Director of External Relations on missions beyond the region in pursuit of the Agency’s resource mobilization strategy.
