Under the direct supervision of the supervisor of the translation unit (Language Reference Assistant), overall guidance of the Senior Legal Officer, and in coordination with the Claims Officers, the individual contractor will assist with following duties:
a. Translation of claim forms and supporting documentation from Arabic into English in compliance with translation standards and guidelines of the Office;
b. Accurate entry of the translations in the electronic database;
c. Provision of assistance to the claims officers as necessary;
d. Performance of other tasks as required.

The United Nations Register of Damage caused by the Construction of the Wall in the Occupied Palestinian Territory serves as a comprehensive record, in documentary form, of the damage caused to all natural and legal persons concerned as a result of the construction of the wall by Israel, the occupying Power, in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including in and around East Jerusalem, and to be referred to as the Register of Damage.
Claims collected in the Occupied Palestinian Territory are processed and reviewed at the UNRoD Office in Vienna. Recommendations on claims are made to UNRoD’s three-member Board, which have the ultimate authority to decide whether a claimed loss or damage is to be included in the Register of Damage. The Office is looking for an individual contractor to provide support in translations of claim forms and supporting documents.
Academic Qualifications: A High School Diploma or equivalent is required
Experience: At least one year of experience in English text processing and data entry is required;
Ability to use information technology is required;
Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For this post, fluency in oral and written English and Arabic is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations Secretariat language is an advantage.
