Org. Setting and Reporting

Under the direct supervision of the Digital Communications Coordinator, the intern will support the Departments of Communications and External Relations in social media content creation for donor visibility.

A work plan with achievements for the duration of the internship and learning opportunities will be agreed upon. Periodic progress meetings will lead to a beneficial environment for the intern enhancing her/his/their skills and capacity in areas related to Digital Engagement. The position will be remote for its duration, with possibility to be based in Jerusalem HQ. The internship is not renumerated.


• Support the daily coordination of donor visibility content for social media accounts (Instagram and Twitter);
• Create and amplify content for visibility during Commissioner-General and Deputy Commissioner-General missions;
• Write engaging posts and support the development of donor communications tools such as infographics, fact-sheets, multi-media assets etc.;
• Coordinate with ERD and donor visibility colleagues to ensure the visibility of events, campaigns and key activities planned by ERD and field offices;
• Provide channel-specific ideas for the use of social media messages, videos or photo content;
• Evaluate social media analytics together with the Department of Communications to amplify the reach of UNRWA donor visibility materials across social media, regionally and globally, specific per each donor;
• Analyze website content and propose ways to share it on social media;
• Research industry standards;
• Provide donor post social media analytics.


Functional Competencies:

• Sound knowledge of social media best practices on Instagram and Twitter;
• Some experience in social media management or digital engagement;
• Excellent writing and research skills;
• Ability to multi-task and address competing priorities;
• Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, In-Design and other graphic design production tools is an asset;
• Experience with the creation of Instagram Stories, Reels and Live video in a professional or personal context is an advantage.

Upon completion of the assignment, and depending on its duration, the Intern will gain the following knowledge assets:

• Increased understanding of how large, international organizations use communications, and social media in particular, to build their brand and provide visibility to donors.
• Understanding of the UNRWA mandate and policies, including regional set-up
• Understanding and familiarity with communication principles and messaging
• Ability to communicate messages using inclusive language
• Ability to write and formulate channel-specific social media content
• Understanding of basic project management principles
• Understanding of how to participate in a creative and collaborative content-production process

Work Experience

No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Experience in communications, public relations, journalism or other similar subject would be an asset (is desirable)


Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English are required; Working knowledge of Arabic a distinct advantage.

Location: Preferably working from Jerusalem or Remote Working
