The Arabic Proofreader is required to undertake the following tasks:
• Proofread the translated material in Arabic for accuracy of language, grammar and punctuation;
• Compare the Arabic version of the online course(s) to the original English version and ensure that no components are missing;
• Read, as needed, through the English original material and ensure that the meaning
of the source text is retained;
• Check translations of technical terms and terminology to ensure that they are
accurate and consistent throughout the whole course;
• Ensure that the final version of the translated text is grammatically correct and
well-expressed;
• Perform occasional translations as required;
• Make sure that gender sensitive language is used throughout the text.

The services of an Arabic Proofreader are needed to proofread online courses translated into Arabic, ensuring that the final version of documents is ready for design and final processing.
The Arabic Proofreader will work under the supervision of the Knowledge Management (KM) Team Leader, and the Coordinator of the Strategy, Planning, Accountability, Results, Knowledge Section (SPARK) at the Office of the Executive Secretary.
Academic Qualifications: • Education: A first-level degree in translation and/or Arabic language from a University or an Institution of equivalent status is required.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in Arabic editing and proofreading is required. Proficiency in computer software skills is desirable. Previous experience in processing UN documents is also desirable
Language: • Fluency in oral and written English and Arabic is required. Arabic must be the mother tongue of the candidate. Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable.
