Duties and Responsibilities

Under the overall supervision of the Deputy Regional Representative, and in light of the African Union
Draft Policy on Business and Human Rights and of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP)
assessment report on the implementation of the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and
Human Rights (UNGPs):
• Collect and analyse relevant information from other sources pertaining to awareness and ownership of
the Business and Human Rights agenda and United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human
Rights (UNGPs) in Africa;
• Identify gaps and propose a set of strategic activities to be carried out to address the awareness and
ownership gaps,
• Develop specific and overall goal(s), objectives and propose a strategic activity plan to meet these
goals; outlining in detail specific activities addressed to various target groups, types of contents, media
channels (both modern social and traditional media channels such as communities' outreach channels),
• Develop key messages and tailored content to reach identified target groups via various
communication channels; Prepare tailored content for specific groups including policy makers
(government officials, government institutions, MPs), Civil Society Organizations, youth, women,
informal workers, businesses and community-based organizations;
• Communicate regularly with African Union Work Stream Team Leader and take part in the weekly
African Union Work stream meeting to brief on progress,
• Submit the draft awareness and ownership strategy to African Union Work Stream Team Leader with
the Deputy Regional Representative in charge of regional Pillar and Geneva Business and Human
Rights Unit in copy

Qualifications/special skills

Academic Qualifications: Bachelor/Master of media, communication, journalism or related discipline
Experience: Minimum of five years of Experience in developing and implementing public awareness-raising
campaign plans through social media and traditional media channels such as communities' communication
channels.
Language: Excellent command of English, fluency in French will be an added value
