Expected duration

This full-time contract is for an initial period of three months and will focus on digital content generation in support of Africa Renewal content and campaigns. The position will report to the Public Information Officer overseeing the Africa Section's digital sub-team.

Duties and Responsibilities

This position is in the Africa Section within the Strategic Communications Division of the UN's Department of Global Communications (DGC). In line with its strategy, the Section is focused on providing factual, balanced, and timely content about Africa, taking advantage of the continent's evolving digital communications landscape for maximum reach, in line with the UN's global communications strategy.

Under the supervision of the Public Information Officer, and in close collaboration with the Managing Editor and the digital media team, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

• Participate in group brainstorming around content and campaign planning.
• Design original and creative graphics, including images, GIFs, social videos, quote cards, etc. to promote Africa Renewal content, campaigns, and priorities on social media, LinkedIn and on the Web.
• Suggest visual materials and enhance digital images for specific content.
• Develop templates and prototypes to uniformly integrate different graphic elements.
• Research, fact check and turn information into compelling social- and web-friendly creative concepts and copy for digital assets.
• Support photo and video research.
• Adapt existing digital assets produced in Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Premiere and/or After Effects. Adaptions can include re-formatting files for various social formats, adjusting designs for translated content, video subtitling and transforming art files into Canva templates.
• Organize, update, and maintain Trello boards on digital campaigns. This includes adding new and existing visual assets to boards with clear labels and instructions for use.
• Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications/special skills

Academic Qualifications: A Bachelor's Degree in Advertising, Graphic Design, Visual Effects, Visual Communications, News Design or related field.
Experience: • At least 3 years relevant experience in digital campaigns production, multimedia journalism, news design, video production, advertising , graphic design, motion design,
and/or related field, especially for African social media and website platforms is required.
• Familiarity with Africa development context required.
• Strong awareness of digital trends, particularly in Africa is required.
• Experience working in sensitive and fast-moving news, communications, or advocacy
contexts is desirable
Language: Fluency in English is required; knowledge of French is desirable.
