Result of Service

The contract will last 30 days between 28 July and 31 December 2022, with possibility of an extension.

The Consultant will:
i) Undertake a copy edit of the final draft of the OCHA Strategic Plan 2023-2026.
ii) Undertake a copy edit of the final draft of the outcome/summary document and other related documents of the 2022 Global Humanitarian Policy Forum.

The contract will last 30 days between 28 July 2022 and 31 December 2022, with possibility of an extension.

Duties and Responsibilities

In 2022, OCHA Policy Branch will finalize the OCHA Strategic Plan 2023-2026 which outlines the transformations OCHA will make to support the ERC to lead the humanitarian system in an inclusive, coherent, and collective manner, to better serve people in crisis today and tomorrow.

In addition to the above, the Policy Branch will require the support of an editor to proof-read the outcomes/summary document, and related reports of the 2022 Global Humanitarian Policy Forum.

In close consultation with the Policy Team to determine the exact requirements as publications are developed and finalized, the consultant will:
•Review draft text for the publications and provide guidance on the structure and tone of the publication, as well as their key messages.
•Undertake a copy edit of the final draft to ensure consistency with OCHA's house style and absence of typographic and other errors.
•The editor will be engaged "on retainer" and will work remotely, receiving files electronically for formatting from the Policy Team.

Qualifications/special skills

Academic Qualifications: A first-level university degree in Writing/Editing/Journalism.
Experience: A minimum of 7 or more years of experience working as an editor, writer or consultant on humanitarian or human rights issues. Strong background in adapting complex concepts for a wider audience and ensuring that ideas are presented clearly. Prior experience working with OCHA or within humanitarian context is highly desirable, especially prior experience in the publication of OCHA material and flagship reports.
Language: Proficiency in English, written and oral is required
