Result of Service

Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) provides critical Supply Chain, Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies services and Training to all peacekeeping and special political missions around the world as well as to other UN Offices, Agencies Funds and Programs.

This position is located in the Generator Cell, Sourcing Support Unit (SSU), Supply Chain Service at the United Nations Global Service Centre, Brindisi, Italy. The incumbent provides efficient technical assistance to a senior engineering staff and to other users in support of activities related to the design, development and execution of various engineering services related primarily to generator mechanics services in UNGSC.

The Electro-Mechanic is under the general supervision of the Chief Generator Cell.

Within limits of delegated authority, the Electro-Mechanic will be responsible for the following duties:

• Reads blueprints, schematics, and diagrams to determine the method and sequence of assembly of a part, machine, or piece of equipment.
• Verifies dimensions of parts, using precision measuring instruments, to ensure that specifications are met.
• Performs preventative maintenance and repairs on advanced/sophisticated electronic equipment.
• Performs breakdown analysis.
• Performs cable assembly.
• Performs mechanical assembly of platforms, frames, custom enclosures.
• Repairs and calibrates hydraulic and pneumatic assemblies.
• Inspects parts with basic tools for surface defects.
• Tests the performance of electro-mechanical assemblies, using test instruments.
• Analyzes and records test results, and prepare written documentation.
• Performs general housekeeping with new/upgraded equipment/technology.
• Prepares final product for shipment.
• Enforces UNGSC, safety, and audit standards.
• Ensures most economical and effective layout of electrical installations together with achieving high level of productivity in work assigned.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/special skills

Academic Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent is required.
Certificate for electro-mechanical technicians is desirable.
Valid national driving license for B class is required.
Valid national driving license for C class is desirable.

Experience:
A minimum of two (02) years of experience in installation, repair or servicing of electromechanical equipment in a private, commercial, or military environment is required.
Experience in basic electrical systems, product manuals, schematics, troubleshooting, or reading mechanical drawings is desirable.

Language:
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.
Knowledge of Italian is desirable.
Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.
