Result of Service

The consultant will develop two filters for the #PlasticIsForever social media challenge (“Plastic in the Sea”, “Plastic on the Mountains”), customized for the Tik Tok platform; implement potential changes suggested by the BRS Secretariat to said filters; submit said filters on Tik Tok; test that filters work as planned; launch the filters on Tik Tok; transmit all ownership rights and access to analytics to the BRS Secretariat; rework on the filters should any glitches appear.

A total of 36 working days over the period from 20 August to 10 October 2022 (the dates are provisional).

Duties and Responsibilities

The Secretariat of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions (BRS Secretariat) brings together the three leading multilateral environmental agreements that share the common objective of protecting human health and the environment from hazardous chemicals and wastes.

A consultant is required to assist the BRS Secretariat in launching two social media filters for the #PlasticIsForever social media challenge on the Tik Tok platform.


Under the overall supervision of the Public Information Officer, the consultant will be responsible for the following (the dates are provisional):

i. Review the existing #PlasticIsForever social media challenge filters on Facebook and Instagram. Based on these, develop two similar social media filters for Tik Tok (“Plastic in the Sea”, “Plastic on the Mountains”) by 29 August 2022;
ii. Implement any needed revisions on the filters, taking into account comments provided by the BRS Secretariat by 5 September 2022;
iii. Submit the two filters to Tik Tok by 12 September 2022;
iv. Once the filters are accepted by Tik Tok, carry out testing to ensure that they work as discussed previously with the BRS Secretariat by 19 September;
v. Publish approved filters on Tik Tok, in accordance with scheduling information provided by the BRS Secretariat by 30 September 2022;
vi. Transmit all ownership rights and access to analytics for the two filters to the BRS Secretariat by 10 October 2022;
vii. Revise the filters should any glitches appear by 10 October 2022.

Qualifications/special skills

Academic Qualifications: An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent degree) in computer science, software engineering, software development, social media marketing, media production, or a related field is required.
A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Experience: • Minimum of five years of experience in social media content management is required, of which three years of experience in software development is required.
• Experience in producing social media content in an international organisation is desirable.
• Experience in supporting global social media campaigns is desirable.
Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an asset.
