Cadre organisationnel

This position is located at the HVAC Shop, Mechanical Unit (MU), Plant Engineering Section (PES), Facilities and Commercial Activities (FCAS), Division of Administration (DOA), Department of Operational Support (DOS). The incumbent reports directly to the Foreperson, HVAC shop and also reports to the General Foreperson of the Unit.

The Department of Operational Support was established to provide operational advisory services to operating entities across the Secretariat, including other departments, offices away from headquarters, field missions, and regional commissions.

The Facilities and Commercial Activities Service (FCAS) operates the Headquarters complex, striving to provide effective and efficient planning, management, maintenance and operation for all existing physical facilities and assets at the UN Headquarters, New York. FCAS also supports office and conference facilities, property management, travel and transportation services, archives and records management, mail and pouch operations, catering, giftshop and the United Nations Postal Administration.

Responsabilités

Under the direct supervision of the HVAC Shop Foreperson, the Lead HVAC Controls Technician has the following duties and responsibilities:

• Act as subject matter expert on all electronically controlled HVAC equipment and systems in UNHQ; assess, interpret and advise colleagues based on their knowledge and expertise with these specific equipment and systems (including Building Management Systems (BMS), Variable Frequency Drives (VFD), fire dampers and alarm systems).
• Provide on-site leadership, training and guidance to colleagues on the electronically controlled HVAC equipment and systems.
• Supervise all aspects of work on the electronically controlled HVAC equipment and systems.
• Perform corrective maintenance on all electronically controlled HVAC equipment and systems.
• Troubleshoot, repair and program electronically controlled HVAC equipment and systems.
• Complete and follow up on the corrective maintenance work orders pertaining to the electronically controlled HVAC equipment and systems.
• Troubleshoot integration faults when they occur and liaise and coordinate with internal staff and appropriate external contractors to resolve.
• Perform preventative maintenance on all electronically controlled HVAC equipment and systems.
• Install and test electronically controlled HVAC equipment and systems.
• Complete and follow up on the preventative maintenance work orders pertaining to the electronically controlled HVAC equipment and systems.
• Perform standard HVAC repair and maintenance functions as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Foreperson of HVAC Shop, the General Foreperson of the Unit, or the Chief of the Plant Engineering Section.
• Perform other related duties as may be required.

Formation

High school diploma or equivalent Trade School Diploma is required.

Job - Specific Qualification

EPA Universal Refrigerant License is desirable.

Q01 Refrigeration Engineering License is desirable.

OSHA Certification in Construction or General Industry workplace safety is desirable.

Expérience professionnelle

A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in the installation, repair and maintenance of complex HVAC control systems, including diagnostic and repair of digital systems is required.

Demonstrated experience in the operation of computerized building management systems (BMS) is required.

A minimum of five (5) years working in a commercial or industrial setting is required.

Experience supervising staff is desirable.

Experience working with any of the following specific HVAC related systems: Johnson Controls Metasys (BMS), Liebert, United Cool Air, and/or Data Air CRAC units is desirable.

Connaissances linguistiques

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required; Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.

The selected candidate will be required to perform night shifts on rotation, in order to perform required off-peak maintenance work as well as to provide prompt response in case of emergencies.

The work requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally. Daily, the incumbent will have to be able to quickly walk between UNHQ buildings, walk up and down the stairs carrying tools, work in confined spaces, work in uncomfortable positions, work on the ladder (3' - 10' high) and, occasionally, work on platforms and scaffolding. The incumbent must maintain safety procedures at all times to avoid injury.
