This position is located in the Enterprise Application Center Americas (EAC-Americas), in the Enterprise Solutions Service (ESS), in the Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT).

The incumbent will report to the Chief of the Substantive Applications Unit.
Within limits of delegated authority, the Senior Information Systems Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:
• Serves as team leader in projects dealing with the planning, specification, design, development, implementation and maintenance of simple computer application systems.
• Liaises and coordinates with user groups to define and specify functional requirements; tests and modifies prototype computer application systems.
• Assists in the identification of user computer application systems’ needs, including business process and document workflow analysis, organization and maintenance of document repositories; identifies classification schema, retention and archival procedures; designs workflow systems; conducts research applications’ tools, procedures and standards.
• Provides support for information management systems, databases and applications in assigned area; performs complex troubleshooting for various applications.
• Participates in the design, testing, and implementation of new computer application system releases, modules and functionalities; conducts version management.
• Designs and develops computer application systems according to United Nations (UN) established standards for IT technologies and tools.
• Manages, designs, creates, produces and maintains functional and technical documentation for relevant computer application systems and products; manages and administers changes to functional and technical documentation in accordance with prevailing change management and operation procedures.
• Assists in developing/refining support and operations procedures for relevant computer application systems.
• Contributes to feasibility studies, systems analysis, design, implementation and testing of computer application system improvements and new computer application systems.
• Designs and conducts training for computer application systems; designs, creates and maintains training documentation.
• Provides support on computer application systems by providing resolutions or following the established escalation procedures.
• Prepares project documentation, including work plan revisions and other related issues, as well as preparing unit contributions as required.
• Keeps abreast of developments in the field; conducts research on new technologies; performs benchmarking and proposes new acquisitions; assists in the implementation of new technologies.
• Provides guidance and training to new/junior staff; plans day-to-day work and supervises other staff as required.
• Performs other related duties as required.

High school diploma or equivalent.
A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in information systems design, business analysis, system quality assurance, production support, information and communications technology (ICT) technical writing or related area is required.
A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in coordinating business users, gathering and documenting business requirements for enterprise applications is required.
A minimum of five (5) years of experience in producing project documentation, managing, and executing quality assurance activities, as well as providing application support for large scale applications is required.
Experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) applications and related business processes is desirable.
Experience using Microsoft Sharepoint, Power BI and other project management support tools is desirable.
Experience in the implementation of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) standards in ICT applications in international organizations or similar organizations is desirable.
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by a competency-based interview.
Appointment or assignment against this position is for an initial period of one year.
