• The mission weapons and ammunition database are accurate and current.
• The weapon and ammunition inspections are conducted according to the approved programs.
• Risks associated with weapons and ammunition is mitigated.
• Ammunition stockpile is maintained within the approved ceiling.
• Quantity of unserviceable ammunition is kept to the minimum.
• Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) are up-to-date and implemented.
• Weapons and ammunition management knowledge of the deployed unit is adequate Ammunition and ASA inspection reports.

Initial period of six (6 months), possibility of extension up to a maximum of 9 months subject to availability on funds and performance.
Under the direct supervision of Chief WAMU the incumbent will undertake the following tasks:
• Maintains up-to-date weapons and ammunition database.
• Plans and conducts weapons and ammunition arrival, operational readiness, spot-check and repatriation inspections of deployed units and process inspection reports.
• Reflects inspection findings in the Uniformed Capabilities Management System (UCM).
• Participates in processing verification reports on aspects related to weapons, ammunition, and ammunition storage areas (ASA).
• Conducts Safe-to-Move inspections and processes the associated certification.
• Plans and conducts inspections of ASAs.
• Coordinates ASA rehabilitation efforts.
• Provides advice on weapons, ammunition and ASA related safety and security issues.
• Process mission clearance for deployment of weapons and ammunition in line with the United Nations Ammunition Manual and approved scales of operational ammunition.
• Drafts Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) as directed.
• Coordinates disposal of unserviceable ammunition throughout the mission area.
• Takes part in investigation of any loss of weapons and/or ammunition.
• Provides training to deployed units and individual staff officers on weapons and ammunition issues.
• Draft briefing notes, point papers, minutes of meetings as directed.
• Supports the work of the Weapons and Ammunition Advisory Board as directed.
• Performs other duties as directed.
Academic Qualifications:
Technical/Vocation diploma from military academy is required.
Experience:
• At least seven (7) years of relevant work experience in logistics of military units, specifically in management of weapons and ammunition is required.
• Knowledge of UN Manual on Ammunition Management is required.
• Experience in supervising the issue, receipt, storage, distribution and maintenance and disposal of ammunition and explosive substances and articles, equivalent to Ammunition Supervisor Level 3 as per IATG 01.90 Ammunition management personnel competences is required.
• Proven experience in inspection and reporting of weapons, ammunition and ammunition storage areas is required.
• Experience working with Uniformed Capabilities Management System (UCM) and database management is desirable.
Language:
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, Fluency in oral and written English is required.
The position requires frequent travels to the field locations in the mission area.
