Org. Setting and Reporting

This position is located in Hudaydah in the Office of the Chief Liaison and Coordination Mechanism (LCM) of the United Nations Mission to Support the Hudaydah Agreement (UNMHA). THe incumbent reports to the Chief LCM. The budgeted location for this post is Hodeida- Yemen. The position may be moved to Mokha- Yemen. Interested candidates must be ready to deploy and serve in Mokha in the event the position is moved to Mokha.


Within delegated authority, and under the direct supervision of the Chief LCM, the Coordination Officer will carry out the following duties.

• Supports and engages in the development and monitoring of the UN’s Peace and Development Agenda, UN Development Assistance Framework and United Nations Integrated Strategic Framework in the country; identifies key issues including challenges that require immediate support and advice, takes corrective action as needed and revises the output of subordinate professional staff.
• Maintains relations and advises UN agencies focal points and directly supports the work of the United Nations Integrated Working Groups, in particular as regards to strategies for advocacy and engagement with local stakeholders;
• Liaises with UN agencies, relevant departments of the Government, facilitates coordination meetings and relevant forums that would enhance coordination and resources mobilization and utilizations, advocates and promotes the work of the mission.
• Monitors and analyses the situational awareness and integrated reporting obligations within the Liaison Coordination Mechanism.
• Drafts routine and ad hoc situation reports/briefings, including input for reports of the Secretary-General, the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee and the monthly Security Council Brief.
• Information sharing between UNMHA and UNCT coordination mechanism and partners. Provide regular updates and analysis of developments of relevance to the provision of basic services including energy, water, and health.
• Coordinates political, operational, security, socio-economic, humanitarian and public information aspects for current and future planning in the LCM.
• Performs any other assigned duties.

Advanced University degree (Master's degree or equivalent) preferably in business administration, management, economics or related field is required. A first –level University degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A diploma from a national police or military academy is desirable.

Work Experience

A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in coordinating development activities in national governments and/or at the international level is required.

Experience in coordinating development activities in post-conflict countries and/or in international organizations or in support of field operation of the United Nations Common System or a comparable international organization is desirable.

Two years’ experience working in a United Nations common system field operation (inclusive of peacekeeping, political missions and UN agencies, funds, and programmes) or similar international organization or non-governmental organization is desirable.

A minimum of two years of experience working in the Middle East is desirable

Experience in areas of security\ military or related area in operations, monitoring, verifying, and reporting troop dispositions and separation of forces, is desirable.


English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English (spoken and written) is required. Knowledge of Arabic is desirable.


Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by an interview.
