Result of Service

• Together with the teachers facilitate the preparation of curricula for Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Spanish, and Russian courses
• Finalized curriculum aligned with UNLF for the six UN official languages
• Collaborating with and supporting the teachers in adjusting their learning material and implementing new teaching material
• Holding meetings with each teacher, the Team Lead and the Language Programme Coordinator
• Developing communication strategy for UNLF framework
• Monitoring the implementation and responding appropriately to feedback, providing the Team Lead with written and oral updates

Duties and Responsibilities

• Evaluate the courses rolled out within UN Level II in collaboration with the language teachers to ascertain whether there were any issues that needed to be taken into account in the final version of the curricula.
• Assist teachers with the development of the appropriate curricula for UN Level III.
• In coordination with language teachers in the specific languages, analyse Vienna Language Programme curricula, course objectives and teaching materials in the six official UN languages, to determine to which extent the existing courses in UN Level III comply with the UNLF
• Determine how many courses are required to achieve each UN Level and propose a sequence of courses accordingly.
• Ensure that Vienna Language courses are aligned with the UNLF in the six official languages at all levels.
• Revise communication strategy related to the implementation of UNLF in Vienna in accordance with the findings for the next phase

Qualifications/special skills

An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in language area studies, language teaching, applied linguistics, communication or education/pedagogy or related area is required. A first level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Post-graduate degree training in second or foreign language teaching is highly desirable.

A minimum of five (5) years of experience teaching a foreign or second language to adults in a multi-cultural setting (corporate, academic or other professional setting), is required. Of these, at least two years of recent experience in curriculum development, language examination design, and/or language teacher training is required.

Experience using a variety of e-learning tools, learning management systems, online collaboration tools and social media platforms to teach a second or foreign language is highly desirable.

Experience at an international level in a multicultural environment is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
