Duties and Responsibilities

The position is located under the UNODC Establishing a Regional Platform in Asia-Pacific on Mutual Legal Assistance and Offender Treatment and Rehabilitation (XAPA10) in the Regional Office for Southeast Asia and Pacific (ROSEAP), Division for Operations, UNODC in Bangkok. The incumbent will work under direct supervision of the Crime Prevention Criminal Justice Officer of the ROSEAP. In particular, the Consultant will be undertaking following activities:

A. Assists in compiling advance inputs from the participants, drafting, editing and finalizing conference room papers;
B. Assists in note-taking and drafting talking points for the facilitator during the WG-MLA meeting;
C. Assists in drafting, editing and finalizing the meeting report of WG-MLA;
D. Assists in drafting, editing and finalizing the meeting report of WG-OTR;
E. Assists in drafting a follow up workplan to achieve synergy with UNAFEI on international cooperation.

Qualifications/special skills

An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in law, criminal justice, criminology or other relevant social or political areas is required. A first level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
• A minimum of 7 years of relevant progressively responsible professional experience in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice, including in the area of international cooperation on criminal matters, coordination experience in organizing international conferences on criminal matters, is required.
• Professional work experience in drafting, reviewing and editing of quality conference documents is required.
• Work experience with the United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Programme Network Institute is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English, with excellent drafting and communication skills, is required. Knowledge of another United Nations official language, is an advantage.
