The consultant is expected to deliver the following outputs during the year according to a workplan and timeline that will be developed upon signing the contract:
- To develop concept notes for and organize side events in the context of CSW67 in coordination with partner member states
- To organize four Gender Discussion Series, targeting different stakeholders active in the field.
- To organize activities related to the 16 Days of Activism to Combat Gender-based Violence.
- To organize activities related to International Women’s Day (8 March).
- To organize a three regional workshops in support of Arab countries implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in the Arab Region.
- To draft a report on gender justice in the region and the relevant applicable laws, based on national reports developed by UN agencies, within the context of the Gender Justice and the Law project.

The Consultant should deliver quality contributions to research reports and projects.
This includes analytical inputs and advice that contribute to improving institutional capacity, and an ability to articulate policy on an array of social and development issues.
In specific, the consultant’s core tasks are:
- To design and carry out substantive research projects, analyzing key trends and changes in socio-economic structures and related issues (e.g., gender mainstreaming, gender issues, UN SCR 1325, violence against women, women participation, employment, the SDGs, etc.) at global, regional, and national levels; to assess implications and develop proposals with respect to gender equality and the empowerment of women.
- To plan, organize and provide substantial servicing of ad hoc Expert Group Meetings, conferences, seminars, workshops, etc. including the identification and selection of participants, development of background documentation and preparation of reports, documents, policy recommendations and analytical briefs based on the outcome of such meetings.
- To prepare a variety of studies, reports, background papers, parliamentary documents, etc. on a wide range of topics relevant to gender equality and the empowerment of women.
- To provide technical assistance to governments and other bodies in the formulation and implementation of policies and programs related to gender equality and gender mainstreaming.
- To design, monitor, backstop and assess the implementation of technical cooperation programmes and projects.
- To prepare global, regional, national, or sectoral analyses that provide a basis for advising national governments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming.
- To conduct training seminars and workshops for government officials and other stakeholders.
A Master's degree or equivalent is required, preferably in Gender Studies, Sociology, Economics, or other social science or related field. A Bachelor’s degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience in socio-economic development, policy analysis, sociological research, or related area is required.
Experience in gender equality and women’s empowerment in the Arab region is required. Experience in research and analysis in the area of socio-economic development is also required.
Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Arabic is desirable.
