A study on:
The Role of Education in Preparing Global Citizens in Lebanon: ESCWA Stories as case study.
UN-House ESCWA
3 months
Background:
The ESCWA Stories Team was established by ESCWA’s Executive Secretary to mainstream the Sustainable Development Goals and UN values in schools in Lebanon and the Arab region through a comic book addressed for children aged between 8-14.
The book narrates the adventures of six Arab young people who represent ESCWA. United by their faith in a brighter tomorrow, they work to achieve development in their neighborhood, mirroring the work ESCWA undertakes to achieve the SDGs in the region.
In the pilot phase of the initiative (2021-2022), the book was distributed to 750 students across seven schools in Lebanon to raise their awareness about the UN values and SDGs, in a fun and innovative way.
Based on the success of the pilot phase, ESCWA expanded the initiative this year to 16 schools in different areas in Lebanon that will be using the book throughout the academic year 2022-2023.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Based on the work done with the schools in Lebanon throughout the academic year 2021-2022, the services of a consultant are required to draft a research study on the role of schools in preparing children to act as global citizens and future leaders in Lebanon, through innovative education tools, as a basis to expand the project to more institutions in Lebanon and abroad.
The consultant should tackle the following points in the study:
1- Map and analyze the current situation of school curriculums in Lebanon, and the educational tools used to instill universal values for students aged between 8-14.
2- Assess the role of heads of educational institutions in setting the vision for shaping future leaders through education.
3- Identify the most important values that should be introduced to children at school, to prepare them to be “global citizens”.
4- Elaborate on the importance of innovative tools and extra-curriculum activities to influence the daily behavior of students.
Use the ESCWA Stories comic book (volume I and II) as a case study.
