Cadre organisationnel

This position is located in the Social Media Section of the Campaigns and Country Operations Division in the Department Global Communications (DGC). The Section is responsible for devising, implementing and managing the multilingual social media strategy of the Department, in line with its overall communications guidance, priorities and messaging and as guided by administrative policies on the institutional use of social media. Incumbent reports to the Chief of Section.
This position is currently available immediately through 31 December 2023 with the possibility of extension.

Responsabilités

Within delegated authority, the Public Information Officer may be responsible for the following duties: •Assists the Chief of the Section by taking the lead in planning, development and implementation of social media strategy and campaigns; •Provides advice and expertise to UN senior officials and offices on social media issues, methods, and approaches; anticipates and resolves communications/public relations issues/problems; •Develops strategic partnerships to support the work of the UN, including with major social media platforms and digital agencies; •Drafts material for UN social media platforms and edits drafts prepared by junior staff; •Evaluates results and impact of social media activities; assesses and advises on lessons learned and best practices; reports on developments, trends and attitudes regarding the UN. •Represents the institution in work-related external meetings and conferences; fulfills speaking engagements and makes presentations to groups on UN activities; organizes seminars, lectures, training sessions and events on social media. •Assists the day-to-day operation of the unit to include participating in coordination of substantive and administrative activities of the unit, including recruitment and procurement exercises, establishing and/or coordinating training programmes; •Coordinates input to reports to intergovernmental bodies, speeches and talking points, among others. •Coordinates and directs a team of public information staff, and mentors and supervises the work of junior officers on a daily basis; provides performance evaluation and management. •Undertakes other tasks as assigned, including acting as the Officer-in-Charge in the absence of the Section Chief.

Formation

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Expérience professionnelle

A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, international relations, public administration or related area is required.

Experience managing global, multilingual social media campaigns on international issues is required.

Experience initiating and sustaining partnerships with social media platforms is required.

Experience advising and producing social media content and insights reports for senior leadership in an international organization is desirable.

Experience planning and managing social media events, including live activations, is desirable.

Experience representing an international organization at speaking engagements on social media issues is desirable.

Connaissances linguistiques

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.
