This position is located within the United Nations Investigative Team for Accountability of Da'esh / ISIL (UNITAD) and will be based in Erbil, Iraq. The Associate Crime Analyst will report to an Investigator, the Investigation Team Leader, or a Chief of Unit/ Section.
UNITAD was established by the Secretary-General pursuant to Security Council resolution 2379 (2017), according to which it is mandated to support domestic efforts to hold ISIL (Da'esh) accountable by collecting, preserving and storing evidence in Iraq of acts that may amount to war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide committed by the terrorist group ISIL (Da'esh) in Iraq.
Within delegated authority, the Associate Crime Analyst may be responsible for the following duties:
•Conducts crime and criminal intelligence analysis related to alleged violations serious breaches of international humanitarian and criminal laws.
•Manages and collates both information and evidence material in the various proprietary data systems used by UNITAD.
•Participates in a team of investigators and carries out analytical tasks and activities in support of the overall investigative effort.
•Will develop link charts, timelines, and other analytical products in support of case development.
•Assists in conducting interviews and obtaining statements; analyzing information; and gathering various forensic evidence as part of the larger team.
•Searches for, gathers and analyzes information/evidence, including in electronic format.
•Participates in the preparation of concise investigation assessment reports.
•Works collaboratively and in coordination with colleagues to achieve organizational goals in accordance with standard operating procedures and in compliance with organizational regulations and rules.
•Performs other duties as required.

First-level university degree in law, international law, criminal investigation, political science, police studies, social sciences research methods, or related fields. Formal qualifications and/or certifications in crime analysis (pursuant to a course of study, training and examinations of a state/national law enforcement institution, a national military academy or a federal/national intelligence service training institution, supplemented with professional development courses and/or certifications involving study, training and examinations in investigatory work) in combination with four additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the first-level university degree.
A minimum of two years of full time progressively responsible experience in investigatory work is required.
Experience with an international or multilateral public institution is desirable.
Experience within a domestic law enforcement agency, performing duties as an analyst in major case teams is desirable.
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Fluency in Arabic is desirable.
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
