Cadre organisationnel

This internship is located in the Information Technology Section, Production and Services Support, Division of Conference Management, Geneva.

Responsabilités

Under the overall supervision of the Chief, Information Technology Section and under the daily guidance of the Chief of the Client Solutions Unit, the incumbent will: • Participate in preparing user requirements and other technical specifications. • Assist in the design, development and installation of information systems.• Undertake analysis of well-defined modules within the system, develop enhancements and new features to existing systems; may design and implement systems as needed. • Undertake rigorous testing and proving of applications software.• Maintain assigned portions of systems, providing operational support for system's applications, analyzing and implementing system changes/upgrades, etc. • Ensure data security and integrity.• Prepare, update and maintain system's documentation and related technical/procedural manuals.• Assist in procurements, including conducting needs assessments and benchmarks, preparing technical specifications and evaluation criteria.• Assist in the set-up and monitoring of software performance measures.• Draft training materials and conducts training sessions and demonstrations of systems for users.• Participate with senior staff in assessing and testing new technology.• Perform ad hoc duties as required.• May provide guidance to new/junior staff.

Formation

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or • Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, much commence the internship within a one year period of graduation from an academic programme. Applicants who are unable tocommence the internship within one year of graduation shall not be accepted. The University degree must be in the area of computer science, information technology or related area.

Expérience professionnelle

• Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme; • Should be computer literate in standard software applications; • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Connaissances linguistiques

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency inEnglish or French is required for the Internship Programme.

Candidates will be assessed based on their Personal History Profile (PHP). Individual interviews may be conducted for further consideration.A complete online application (Cover Note and Personal History profile) is required. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. The cover Note must include: - Title of degree you are currently pursuing; - Graduation date (when will you be graduating from the programme); - List the IT skills and programmes that you are proficient in; - Explain why you are the best candidate for the internship position. In your Personal History Profile, be sure to include all past work experience, if any; IT skills and three (3) references.Due to high volume of applications received, ONLY succesful candidateswill be contacted.

Other Skills and Requirements

Practical knowledge of the following software types, are an advantage: * Content management systems, particularly Drupal; * Database systems (MySQL, MSSQL, Oracle); * Programming languages (JavaScript, Python).
