Org. Setting and Reporting

The Trade and Investment Division-Trade Capacity Development and Facilitation Section-Trade Facilitation Unit internship is for a period of two to six months depending on the needs of the division.

The internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the division or office to which they are assigned.

The Trade Facilitation Section promotes simplification, harmonization and standardization of trade procedures through providing advisory services, organizing capacity building activities, developing tools and guides and carrying out research and analysis for dissemination. The Section work programme is delivered in large part through the United Nations Network of Experts for Paperless Trade in Asia and the Pacific (UNNExT; http://unnext.unescap.org/).

Responsibilities

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background and the intern’s assigned office as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited

1.Collecting and analyzing ‘trade’ and ‘trade facilitation’ related information and data from various sources including databases, studies, reports, working papers and other literature.
2.Write briefs or small reports, including developing graphs or other graphics.
3.Edit and review papers, guides, and summarize study reports on trade facilitation.
4.Assist in organizing meetings or in preparing presentations.
5.Support for developing learning materials or brochures on trade facilitation, including content development for the UNNExT website.
6.Perform other relevant tasks as instructed by supervisor.

Education

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
a)be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
b)be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
c)have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation

Work Experience

Applicants
-are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme;
-shall be computer literate in standard software applications;
-have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
-have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required for the Internship Programme. Knowledge of another official UN language is an asset.
