The Office for Outer Space Affairs OOSA-Space Applications Section internship is for two (2) months with an opportunity for extension up to a total of six (6) months, pending on the needs of the office and the availability of the intern.
The internship is UNPAID and full-time.
Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background; the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period.
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
-Support the preparation of country profiles for the advisory services of UN-SPIDER-Assist the UNSPIDER Team in providing technical advice to Member States on the use of Earth observation products
-Contributing to the collection of information on sources and
characteristics of space-borne remote sensing data for the UN-SPIDER Knowledge Portal and to support the development of a Clearinghouse of imagery sources in support of advisory services and emergency response
-Assist in the technical preparation of Advisory Missions of UN-SPIDER and in the preparation of training programmes on the use of remote sensing and geographic information systems for disaster management and emergency response
Assist in the preparation and organization of conferences, workshops coordinated by the Office, as required
-Deliver a final presentation at UNOOSA on the internship outcomes
-Perform other tasks as necessary.

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
•Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation; (OFFICIAL PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY IN SUPPORT OF ONE OF THE ABOVE OPTIONS HAS TO BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION)
•Be computer literate in standard software applications; proficiency in preparing spreadsheets and databases management (good knowledge of MS excel and Libre Base, online data extraction using R);
•Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
•Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

English is the working languages of the United Nations. Fluency in English, i.e. oral and written proficiency is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
