Org. Setting and Reporting

This position is located in the Unit of Publication and Multimedia of the Strategic Communication and Public information within MINUSCA. The integration of multimedia and social media platforms, including social networking tools such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Flickr and YouTube, is a critical component of the section's communications strategies. The incumbent of this position will report directly to the Head of Publications and Multimedia Unit.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority and depending on location, the Public Information Officer may be responsible for the following duties: (These duties are generic, and may not be performed by all Public Information Officers.)
. •Undertakes activities to implement MINUSCA's presence on a range of major multimedia and social media platforms in French and English;
. •Advise and support Strategic communication and pubic information on digital campaign integration; liaise with and advise the UN System on social media issues.
. •Liaise with external partners to plan and manage social media special events and initiatives;
•Conduct and organize social media training sessions;
• Ensures implementation of information programs to publicize priority issues and/or major events, to include drafting information strategies, coordinating efforts, monitoring and reporting on progress, taking appropriate follow-up action, and analyzing the outcome.
• Monitors and analyzes current events, public opinion, social media platforms and press, identifies issues and trends, and advises management on appropriate action/responses.
• Produces or oversees production of a specific type or types (e.g. print, broadcast, digital and social media tools, etc.) of information communications products (e.g. press kits, press releases, feature articles, speeches, booklets, brochures, backgrounders, audio-visual materials, radio spot program, etc.), to include proposing topics, undertaking research, determining appropriate medium and target audience, preparing production plans, writing drafts, obtaining clearances and finalizing texts, editing copy, and coordinating design approval, printing procedures and distribution.
• Prepares, on the basis of official UN documentation and other sources, initial drafts of articles or chapters for inclusion in UN newsletters, periodicals, reports and digital and social media tools,.
• Initiates and sustains professional relationships with key constituencies.
•Acts as focal point for some of the major social media platforms; *Work closely with Radio, video, Media relation and Outreach units to develop and implement an effective multimedia strategy, ensuring accurate and consistent messaging, branding and alignment with the communication strategy ;
•Represent the Section at inter-agency meetings and external events and speaking engagements;
• Provides guidance to, and may supervise, more junior staff.
•Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience

A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, international relations, public administration or related area. Experience managing multimedia and global social media outreach in a professional setting is required. Experience implementing social media campaigns in an international organization is highly desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in English and French both oral and written are required.
