Cadre organisationnel

This position is located in the Facilities Management Service (FMS) of the Office of Central Support Services Management, Department of Management. FMS provides, among other tasks, customer services through implementation of the building, architectural and engineering services.

The Facilities Management Service internship is for three (3) months with an opportunity for extension, pending on the needs of the department. The internship is UNPAID and full-time.
Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Responsabilités

Under the general supervision of the Chief, Information System Unit (ISU) and within delegated authority, the Information Technology Intern will assist in the following duties:

• Gather requirements from various end-users in order to design and implement new web applications;
• Plan and implement efficient testing campaigns (draft testing scenarios, plan the testing phases, assist end-users,);
• Collect, classify, and store information coming from multiple sources;
• Review and maintain current applications used by different FMS sections and suggest improvements;
• Create graphic elements for the different platforms;
• Other related duties as needed.

Formation

To qualify for consideration for an internship by the United Nations Headquarters Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: 1. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (1) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (2) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or(3) Have graduated with a university degree as defined in (1) and (2) above.Candidates who are selected, must commence the internship programme either prior to graduation or within one year of graduation from an academic programme as described in (1) and (2). Applicants who are unable to commence the internship within one year of graduation shall not be accepted. 2. Be computer literate in standard word processing and spreadsheets software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel or similar. Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Expérience professionnelle

Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.

Connaissances linguistiques

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of another UN language is desirable.
