Cadre organisationnel

The position is located in the Policy Analysis and Development Branch of the Financing for Development Office (FFDO) in the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs and is for a period of three (3) months, with an opportunity for extension up to a total of six (6) months, depending on the needs of the department. The Policy Analysis and Development Branch of FFDO is the coordinator and substantive editor of the Inter-agency Task Force on Financing for Development. The online annex of the Task Force comprehensively monitors progress in implementation of the Financing for Development outcomes. The Task Force’s annual report provides a concise overview of progress while also providing recommendations for Member States’ consideration at the annual ECOSOC Forum on Financing for Development follow-up. Further work is needed to improve the visibility of these outputs, popularise the report annex, and encourage their use by Member States and external stakeholders. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Responsabilités

The intern will support FFDO staff and contractors in their objective to promote the Task Force’s report and online annex. Duties may include, but are not limited to:

-Drafting, formatting, editing and posting content (text, photos, documents and multimedia) for promotion of the Task Force’s work (including website and social media);
-Assist in organizing press conferences, meetings, briefings and other outreach events;
-Assisting with development and implementation of surveys;
-Assist with any other communications materials, including correspondence with Members of the Task Force;
-Provide media support to events organized by the Office;
-Developing web and social media content and web site maintenance;
-Proposing new projects for the website and social media platforms and identifying opportunities to reach a wider audience;
-Monitoring the website and social media channel usage through the use of various statisticaltools;
-Assist in taking photos and videos for media coverage and archiving;
-Assist in other ad-hoc activities as instructed.

Formation

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or
(c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation;

Study in the fields of communications or journalism is desirable.

Applicants must be computer literate in standard software applications.

Expérience professionnelle

Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme. However, applicants are encouraged to list all relevant work experience in their UN professional history profile (PHP). Working exposure to print, video, and online media is desirable.

Connaissances linguistiques

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the Internship Programme. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset.
