Cadre organisationnel

The internship in the Planning, Design and Construction Section (PDCS) of the Facilities Management Service (FMS) of the Department of Management is for three to six (3-6) months, depending on the Section's needs. The role of FMS is to examine and report on a wide range of building use, facility management matters, Member State Artwork Gifts and work space accommodations within the United Nations in New York. FMS continues to monitor the UN complex and update floor plans where necessary. Gift management requires record keeping for over 300 gifts, location placement, document references and condition assessment recording. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM, Monday-Friday) under the supervision of the Chief of PDCS and/ or a staff member in the Section to which they are assigned. Responsabilités

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background and needs of assignments within the Section, the interns assigned within the work team, as well as the internship period. Under the general supervision of the Chief, Planning, Design and Construction Section (PDCS) and within delegated authority, the OSAU intern will assist in some of the following duties:
•Assist in reviewing existing floor plans and gift list; survey floors and record changes
•Assist in updating database changes to records in File Maker Pro and/ or paper records,
•Assist in updating Gift database changes for locations and info with Excel in binders or
electronic folders,
•Create a list and organize gifts by floor plans and documents in binders or
electronic.
•Perform other related duties as required.

Formation

To qualify for an internship by the United Nations Headquarters Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:1. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:(1) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);(2) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or(3) Have graduated with a university degree as defined in (1) and (2) above and, if selected, must commence the internship within one year period of graduation. Preferably in the area of Architectural Engineering, or Facilities management degree programme in a graduate school (second university degree or higher); or if pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, have completed at least four years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of an Architectural, Engineering, Facilities Management degree. 2. Applicants must be computer literate in standard software applications, including MS Suite (Word, Power Point, Excel), and AutoCAD. Knowledge of CAFM, Archibus or AutoCad is a plus. 3. Applicants must have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the
Charter. 4. Applicants must have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Expérience professionnelle

Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme, although work experience in an Architectural and/or Engineering studio or Facilities Management is an advantage.

Connaissances linguistiques

Fluency in one of the working languages of the UN Secretariat, English or French, (both oral and written) is required; knowledge of the other is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage
