Org. Setting and Reporting

The internship with the Department of Management/Office of the Under-Secretary-General/Headquarters Committee on Contracts and Headquarters Property Survey Board (DM/OUSG/HCC-HPSB) is for a minimum of two months with an opportunity for extension for up to six months, depending on the needs of the department. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns will be required to work full five days per week under the supervision of the Capacity Development Officer in the Secretariat of the United Nations Headquarters Committee on Contracts (HCC).

Responsibilities

The selected intern will work in the Capacity Development Programme of the United Nations Headquarters Committee on Contracts. Ongoing responsibilities will include assistance with the update of the HCC online resources, organization and coordination of training sessions for the Local Committees on Contracts in field operations, maintenance of training statistics and preparation of training materials. Selected intern will also assist in i) maintaining a database to facilitate the monitoring of functioning of the Local Committees on Contracts (LCCs); ii) developing easy-to-use data analysis tool to analyze LCC-related statistics; iii) conducting research, analyzing and summarizing statistics for the Field Assessment Missions; iv) compiling data related to the workload of the Local Committee on Contracts, and other tasks, if requested.

Education

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
• Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or
(c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation;
• Be computer literate in standard software applications; knowledge of standard software applications, such as Word, Excel and Power Point is required;
• Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
• Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience

Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language, in particular French, is an advantage.
